Knocked Back But Creating

It seems that just about when I get my quilting mojo back, something happens to take the wind out of my sails. That’s just what happened after my last post. I don’t want to have my blog be a downer, but it is, after all, about my life and creative pursuits. So I’ll just tell you that my big sis died unexpectedly a few weeks ago. We still don’t know why for sure. She was only 57. I know I don’t have to explain the kind of sadness that this has left me with. For some reason my default grief mode is to sit quietly and knit. So I’ve been doing a bunch of that still. However, I did just put together a simple low volume quilt top for myself, and as I was making it, Psalm 42:11 came to mind. So I’m calling it my ‘Yet shall I praise Him’ quilt. I like the idea. My soul gets downcast, but in the end, I find my needs met by Him.

It’s actually an extremely cheerful quilt, wouldn’t you agree? I’m going to embroider a tiny bit on it and then I’ll layer and bind it. I think it’s far too happy looking to make me sad, and rather than reminding me of loss, it will remind me that there is constant goodness. *update* finished pictures of the quilt on this post: https://happydancequilting.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/wordless-praise-quilt-photos-and-knitting/

Do you love plus quilts? I do too. I saw Jen Eskridge’s pattern on www.ReannaLilyDesigns.com and just had to try the mini version. It was done in a blink. I’ve yet to bind it, but that will also be a snap.

Finally, I joined in an IG (Instagram) QAL called the Pop-Up Mystery Quilt #popupquilt being hosted by @richyjr16 https://instagram.com/richyjr16/ It’s a fun project.

So, my last post promised quilting, and amazingly I’ve done some, but it’s been a bit different than I expected. Isn’t that the way life is?

May your spool be endless…

    Hi Letty,
I love your low volume quilt so much (I agree it’s quite cheerful and I’m looking fwd to the embroidery). It has such an extra special meaning since you made it during a time of sadness and healing. It’s wonderful to have your knitting as backup when you don’t feel like sewing. The new mini is darling, too, and of course your Pop-Up Mystery quilt is off to a great start! The main thing is that you’re staying busy and finding all these lovely diversions to help you cope…. many {{HUGS}} being sent your way 🙂

What Diane said! All you work is beautiful. There is a sense of peace in all of these photos in spite of the sadness. I think the “Yet Shall I Praise Him” title for your low volume quilt is perfect! I can’t wait to see it finished with the quilting & the embroidery. XXX

Letty I’m so very sad and sorry to read the news of your sister. God alone knows the number of our days. I wish I had words of wisdom that would heal like a balm. “Yet we will praise Him,” our Abba, Father. The lover of our souls. I pray you feel God comforting you as you quietly knit and sew. Gentle reflection is a good thing.
