Oh Grow Up!
This week I’ve finished my Lucky Penny Quilt top. I really like it, but my immediate thought was, ‘gee, it’s kind of babyish’. This is a perennial problem for me. I love toys, children’s and babies things so much that I keep making them, but what I mostly want to o
wn and have in my home is not really like that. So. After I quilt this up, I’m going to be making a grown-up quilt. My talented friend Anita (Bloomin Workshop) and I are cooking something up that both of us will share (hopefully in the near future).
When I saw that the Fat Quarter Shop was doing a SAL (sew along) with Lella Boutique for the Goody Goody Binding Kit, I could not jump on that bandwagon fast enough. I LOVE a fun, fast project like this. The first one I made is here. Looks babyish right???
So the next day I made another, more grown up. I didn’t like my stitching on the strawberry at all, but didn’t notice how ick it was until after the kit was together, so I used a permanent pen and made my stitches dark, so less noticeable. You can see the after shot in the closeup. This is a trick I’ve used a few times before, and since this won’t ever be washed, it is a perfect fix. Otherwise I really love the way this one came out.
I’m also knitting like a fiend. This Naima Sweater is going to take a very long time, but I think I’ll really love wearing it, and I’m enjoying the knitting. Just cannot wait to see it with sleeves and blocked, etc.
We finally have a bit of rain in the PNW. Very refreshing. Such a long hot summer. I like balance. Lights and darks. I guess childish and grown-up, knitting and sewing, and cooking and photography…
Here are a few snaps from the week. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen some of these.

May your spool be endless,

I do love that quilt, even it seems babyish to you. If not on the bed, why not toss it over a chair? You have been a busy bee! Both your binding kits are darling, and no one would notice less than perfect stitches on the strawberry 😉 Love the sweater…if you saw my IG comment, you already know that. Fit already looks perfect. I’ll be looking fwd to your collaboration with Anita…it’s sure to be a knockout!
Thanks as always D. Glad you like the sweater and all. You’re always such a sweet encourager 🙂 x
I love that photo of D’Arcy! And where did you find those mushroom?
Those were at the grocer near me. Aren’t they gorgeous?!
Letty each of your projects look great to me! I don’t think of the things you make as baby-ish, instead, they seem reminiscent of a simpler time. I like that. They are not “in-your-face” like so much of what we see today – not that that’s bad, but it can be over-stimulating. Oh-my…I can’t wait to see what you and Anita are cooking up!!!
What a lovely way of putting it Debbie. Thank you. I really agree with you. 🙂
I would say cute not babyish! I agree with Debbie 🙂 The other version of the bag is really pretty too, love those bees and good thinking about the pen covering the stitches! Looking forward to seeing your new quilt plan. Don’t know why I hadn’t found you on IG but following now!! ❤
And I’m following you now too! Thanks so much for your lovely comment. i read every blog posting you put up, but am a lazy twit about commenting!
I don’t think it’s babyish at all. It’s lovely.
Thank you billiemick. I really do love both versions 🙂
